Development & Innovation 
As well as supplying more than 80 raw materials we are able to blend flavour and fragrance components together with raw materials, to produce tailored combinations for individual client applications. Our technical team supports clients in their new product development efforts, either by specifying the most appropriate material for the purpose, by sourcing new or difficult raw materials or by combining materials to create unique products.


We can:

  • Test their efficacy for particular applications.
  • Create test blends in laboratory conditions.
  • Define, test and authenticate production processes.

In constant pursuit of innovation we have:

  • Defined a range of spray drying techniques, transforming liquids into dry powder for specialist applications, including Essential Oils for use in confectionery, chewing gum and pharmaceutical applications.
  • Created a blend of Eucalyptus and Mint Oils for use in toothpaste.
  • Launched 'Odapure', a range of low pure ingredients, in response to European legislation on the reporting levels of 26 alleged sensitisers in fragranced products.

Through a combination of buying skills, experience and deep market knowledge we are able to free our clients from the worry and risk so often associated with maintaining a consistent year-round supply. For many we act as a virtual purchasing department, managing every aspect of the supply chain: from raw material selection, through quality and authenticity testing, to logistics management and on-time delivery.

  • Because we buy in advance and hold stocks of key materials on three continents we can meet our commitments even when world supply falls short.
  • Because contracts are agreed in advance, prices remain fixed, however markets move or currencies fluctuate.
  • Because we understand the need for consistent quality and material characteristics, we work with our suppliers to ensure delivery to our specification, through production processes approved by us. Every batch is tested for authenticity.
  • Our clients’ peace of mind is assured by a quality assurance programme that includes organoleptic and a full analytical range of tests and is among the most stringent in the industry.

FDL’s supplier base is continuously audited and monitored and includes some of the world’s most significant producers of essential oils and aroma chemicals. For some we act as sole agent.
