|Castor Supplies Disrupted|

European supplies of Castor oil are likely to be disrupted during May and June, and as a consequence of the hi-jack of an oil tanker, off the coast of Somalia earlier last week. This vessel was reportedly carrying 3,000 MT of castor oil destined for Rotterdam tanks. Fortunately, FDL did not have any Castor oil on board this vessel and in our opinion, this is unlikely to have any effect on oil prices from origin markets, but we expect some tightening of availability and strong possibility of price increases in Europe, until replacement stock is shipped or the hi-jacked vessel is released. This does highlight the inherent dangers in the Castor oil supply chain and the need for consumers to try to take adequate protection in both their planning and stock holding levels against any such unforeseen events and circumstance that can occur.
