There were fears that the 2012 Castor crop would be damaged by frost in Rajasthan and Gujurat during early February 2011 when these two states were affected by a brief period of unseasonally cold weather. It seems that these fears were over-exaggerated, and while there will undoubtedly be some crop damage in certain districts, any such damage is likely to prove insignificant against the backdrop of the largest ever predicted Castor seed crop. AC Nielsen have just announced their Indian Castor seed crop estimate for 2011-12,  reflecting an increase of 30% on their estimate for last year (which was a record in itself), and so we are set for a bumper Castor seed crop this year.
